Amusement park destinations For Dogs

Where is Your Dog Welcome? Part II Just Get Out There!

No, He Can’t Go With You on the Roller Coaster
But you’re doggie friend can accompany you to exciting amusement park destinations such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, Texas (www.sixflags.com) and Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida (www.buschgardens.com). Both of these fun places have facilities where you can drop off your dog while you enjoy the rides and attractions of the park. Six Flags has indoor, air-conditioned kennels. The facility is free, but you must bring food and water for your dog. Busch Gardens has 50 kennels in a covered outdoor facility. They provide water; you must bring your own food. This kennel is free to those with a guest pass.

For the Patriotic Pooch
This could change in the future of course, but right now dogs don’t get to exercise their right to vote. On the Capitol Mall in Washington DC, though, they do get to exercise. And there’s enough room at the Mall, from the Capitol to the Washington Monument, to run off any frustrations your dog may have with the current political scene. The official policy is that you must keep your dog on a leash, but people have been known to ignore that rule in order to play disk toss and other games with their canine companions. Dogs owned by both Republicans and Democrats have been seen getting along very well for extended periods of time at the Mall, once again showing how dogs provide a good role model for humans.

Go West, Young Pup
The Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona, is located in a magnificent section of the Sonoran Desert, with breathtaking vistas and clean air. This is one of the most luxurious resorts in the Southwest, and their premier service extends to doggie guests, too. They provide dog bowls, biscuits, “Evian” water, a special pet menu, a “do not disturb” sign specially designed for your dog, as well as a map that shows hiking trails for pet walking adventures on this beautiful property.

High Country Adventure
How about fly fishing, rafting, hiking, the Aspen Music Festival, skiing in winter, golf in summer—all in one place. What, you forgot to pack your dog’s golf clubs? Not to worry, because while you’re enjoying all these activities, the River’s Edge, located at 15184 Highway 133 in Redstone, Colorado, offers dog sitting, grooming and exercise sessions. This property welcomes all size dogs and does not charge any extra room fees for you to bring your dog buddy. They have towels, treats, and first aid supplies available for your dog, and they promise that many restaurants nearby have outside dining areas that allow pets.

Bringing (Your) Old Faithful
Because of safety concerns for both your dog and the local protected wildlife, Yellowstone National Park has restrictions about bringing your dog with you into most areas of the park. However, nearby lodging facilities do welcome dogs, such as the Jackson Hole Mountain Haus in Teton Village, Wyoming. The property charges no additional room fees for dog guests and welcomes all sizes of dogs. They have a riverfront pet-friendly beach nearby, and this area is a great place to go hiking with your dog. They also note that there is no mandatory leash policy. Dogs must be under voice control, though. But as all dog owners know, that’s easier said than done. So, a leash is recommended anyway. Nearby points of interest include Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks, Bridger Teton National Forest, Jackson Hole Ski Resort, Teton Pines Golf, and Snake River.
